General description of the collection: The Frederick Edward Bury papers include a copy of a scrapbook containing orders, official correspondence, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and brochures pertaining to Bury's military career, particularly during the Philippine Insurrection and the expedition to Murmansk and Archangel. Most orders and official correspondence concern promotions, transfers, and assignments to duty; a few cover actual military operations. Some material on his civilian service in the branches of the National Soldiers' Home in Marion, Indiana (1909-1917 and 1919); Danville, Illinois (1919-1920 and 1922-1924); Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1920-1922); and Dayton, Ohio (1923-1941) is also included.

He was a private, 31st Michigan Infantry Regiment; lieutenant, 38th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment; lieutenant, 1st and 23rd U.S. Infantry Regiments; major, staff duty at Fort Benjamin Harrison and with the 155th Depot Brigade; lieutenant colonel, headquarters staff, Second (2nd) Army; and chief of staff, American Expeditionary Force (AEF) to northern Russia.
